I’ve read several books about kindness in the past year, but none as clever and sweet as this one. Deborah Underwood’s rhyming text and Irene Chan’s simple illustrations work together to promote kindness without being didactic or judgmental.

 

I especially like how the artwork reveals unexpected interpretations of the text. Each spread presents the reader with many examples of kindness. The illustrations move seamlessly from one example to another by drawing attention to the preceding and forthcoming examples of kindness in the same picture, making kindness not just isolated incidents, but common everyday occurrences.
