Summary: Henrietta’s mom gave her a new box of colored pencils. Henrietta draws a picture and tells a story. As she works, she tells her cat the story she’s creating. It’s a story about herself and a three headed monster with only two hats. She helps the monster find another hat in her wardrobe. In the process, they are chased by a one-headed monster with three hats. When they escape, the three headed monster gives Henrietta a parting gift… a beautiful flowered hat.
Literary Merit: Combination of text and speech bubbles is fun for early readers.
Kid Appeal: Kids will love the illustrations and story line. It’s also fun to read how Henrietta tells her cat that she doesn’t know what’s going to happen next until she draws it. It’s very authentically childlike.
