The Day the Crayons Came Home written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers (2015)
One day Duncan received a package of postcards written by many of his lost and forgotten crayons. Each crayon tells the story of how they became lost and what has happened to them since. Duncan felt bad and collected all his lost crayons from around the house, but when he found them all he realized that they wouldn’t fit back into his box. So Duncan did the next best thing… he built a custom box to house all of his crayons.
Great story about acceptance and valuing each individual as they are. And the humor with which the story is told, will please both the child and adult reader.
Take a few minutes to enjoy each postcard individually. Later search the house for those lost and broken crayons and have some fun creating new things.
