Happy Final Day of Get Caught Reading Month
May is celebrated as Get Caught Reading Month. It is a way to encourage people everywhere to read everywhere! Get Caught Reading Month began in 1999 to remind people how much fun reading for pleasure can be, whether you read the classics or prefer the newest bestseller. Reading isn’t only limited to books either, Get Caught Reading Month encourages you to read magazines, newspapers, or electronic media. It has been scientifically proven that reading to young children stimulates growth in all areas of the brain, and that children who are read to early have a valuable advantage when they start school.
Here’s a photo of me getting caught reading NAKED!

For many students, summer means lazy days, splashing in the pool, backyard picnics, and family vacations, but it shouldn’t be a vacation from books. Search your local library and bookstores for literary treasures. Find new and old titles that your child will enjoy. Remember reading isn’t about taking a test, it’s about fun. See if you can ‘catch your child reading’ this summer.
Here is another resource to encourage your child to read, and to listen to books being read to them. This site has a good selection of children’s books read by famous people. Below is a link to Daisy Fuentes reading Arthur’s Family Vacation.
