Octopus Soup written and illustrated by Mercer Mayer (2011)
Wordless picture book, formatted like a comic book tells the story of a little green octopus who leaves home with his little red wagon. He spies a long rope anchored to the bottom of the sea and climbs to investigate. He slithers into a fishing basket and scares the rhino fisherman who flings him in the air, landing on a hippo’s face. From there he makes his way into the possum’s restaurant where the walrus chef imagines him as the main ingredient of his soup. Follow his funny antics until at last he returns to the sea, back home to his mother and father.

Crab asks Octopus what her arms can do. Besides knitting, baking, stirring, sawing, cleaning, dragging, untangling, swinging, climbing, unlocking, digging, washing, bouncing and so much more… her arms can grow. They grow and grow and grow. They reach out wide, and pull someone to her side. She can hug with her eight arms and make everything feel all right.
Octopus Alone written and illustrated by Divya Srinivasan (2013)
Octopus is shy. She wants to be left alone and watch the other animals in the reef swim and dance in the water. But the seahorses think she wants to play and disturb her. Octopus squirts ink and swims away from the reef until she is all alone. She sees a huge whale swim by and takes a nap. But when she wakes up, she realizes that it is lonely being all by herself so she swims back to the reef to play with the other creatures.
