Over in the Wetlands: A Hurricane on the the Bayou Story written by Caroline Starr Rose and illustrated by Rob Dunlavey (2015)

Following the classic pattern of Over in the Meadow by Ezra Jack Keats (1971), this new version depicts the scenes in the Mississippi River Delta bayous just prior to a hurricane all the way through to after the hurricane passes. Wildlife and vegetation are accurately referenced in rhythm and rhyme. The illustrations are heartwarming. The story is completed with non-fiction information about America’s wetlands stretching from Texas to Florida along the Gulf of Mexico.

This is a great kickstarted to an in-depth study of the wetlands. Compare and contrast the animals and plants living in the wetlands to those living in your area. Make a mural or a diorama representing the area.
