Happy World Hello Day!

It’s making the internet rounds: I wonder if I said hello how many people would respond.

Adorable half-pages introduce each animal’s particular way of saying hello with the hellos on the following pages. I think my favorite is the donkey, ‘A donkey hello is silly and happy…like this! HEE-HAW! HEE-HAW! HEE-HAW!’

Carmelita and her mama are going to visit her Abuela Rosa at the park. They take Manny, Carmelita’s dog with them. Everywhere they go, they stop to say hello to their friends and neighbors, each in their own language. Manny says hello too, ‘Woof’. Abuela Rosa is waiting on the park bench for them. When they arrive, they hear the jingle of the ice-cream truck. Manny barks. Everyone gets an ice-cream and Manny gets a big hug.

Hello, Snow! written by Hope Vestergaard and illustrated by Nadine Bernard Westcott (2004)

Charming, fun-filled, rhymes as a little girl wakes up to a snowy day. As she dresses, she says good-by to her toes and hello to her socks, good-by to her ears and hello to her hat. She and Daddy go outside to shovel, build a snowman, and sled with a friend. At the end of the morning, Mommy calls everyone inside for some hot cocoa and homemade cookies… good-bye snow!
