May, 2014

Unknown

May is the month for many National Observances, first and foremost in everyone’s minds and hearts is Mother’s Day.  Although there have been various celebrations for mothers over the years, including Greek and Roman celebrations, the official Mother’s Day celebration in the United States did not occur until 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson made a presidential proclamation declaring the celebration of Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May, making this year the 100th anniversary of Mother’s Day in the United States.

May is also National Barbecue Month, National Hamburger Month, and National Salad Month. It is also Older Americans Month, National Bike Month, and National Photograph Month. So we have lots of reasons to celebrate in May.

Don’t forget to Celebrate Everyday with a Picture Book.  Look under the tab at the top of the page and I will post my recommendations and reviews for each day as I get them written. Keep coming back for more suggestions!
