April 26 – National Audubon Day

Happy National Audubon Day

April 26th is the anniversary of the birth of John James Audubon, the French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. Audubon painted birds in their natural habitats. His work currently hangs in many of the most prestigious museums in the world.  He is also the author of The Birds of America, a wonderful resource for anyone interested in birds.

A book more appropriate for young children is Kevin Henke’s, Birds (2009) or Lois Ehlert’s Feathers for Lunch (1990).
