March 24 – National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day

Happy Chocolate Covered Raisins Day!

Did you know that chocolate covered raisins are the most popular theater candy?  So today would be a great day to go to the movies, or rent a movie, or just find an old movie on TV, and enjoy a box of chocolate covered raisins, don’t you think?  But, what am I saying? This is a blog about celebrating every day with a picture book, not a movie!  Well, I’ve got to admit… there is not ONE single picture book featuring chocolate covered raisins!

Now, I did find a book about a raisin and grape, called Raisin and Grape written by Tom Amico.  I’ve never read it, I’ve never even seen it, but Goodreads says  “This funny picture book shows the relationship between a young grape and his grandfather, a raisin, in a sweet and unconventional story.”  And, guess what?  It’s available at my library so I’m going to pick up a copy and see if it’s really as sweet as it claims to be.

1142114The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Fractions Book, written by Jerry Pallotta is the perfect companion to Raisin and Grape, that is if you’re trying to celebrate National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day, like I am.  Jerry Pallotta uses a full size Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar to teach children the basics of equal fractions.  It’s easy, fun, and tasty!  Published in 1999, it was quickly followed with The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Multiplication Book in 2002 and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Weights and Measures in 2003.
