May 21 – Strawberries and Cream Day

Happy Strawberries and Cream Day!

Yesterday was National Strawberry Day, so it’s only natural that today would be Strawberries and Cream Day.  After all, what else would you do with all those strawberries? Oh, right… pie, jelly, jam, ice-cream, tarts, shakes, mmmmmm, yum!

And that’s exactly what Little Mouse has in mind in the story The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and THE BIG HUNGRY BEAR, written by Audrey Wood and illustrated by Don Wood (1984). In order to save his red ripe strawberry from the big hungry bear, the little mouse agrees to share it with the narrator of the story who has been warning him of the bear’s approach and is the one who convinces him to share. Hmmmm…
