Here I am! That’s me with my incredible hubby. We’re celebrating my retirement after thirty years of teacher and toasting my future as a writer and aspiring author. Actually, it was kind of hard to find a decent picture of me. All of the best pictures I have of myself are with one of my adorable grandchildren.
And as far as telling about myself… well, there’s not that much to say.
#1 I love Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip ice cream and the beach.
Unfortunately, those two don’t go together. First, you can’t get Graeter’s ice cream outside of Cincinnati, where we have no beaches. And second, too much Graeter’s ice cream makes for uncomfortable beach pictures.
#2 I love movies, books, and television. I love getting lost in a character’s life, even if only for five minutes. Some of my best friends are fictional!
#3 My family, friends, and faith are the most important aspects of my life. If you know them, you know me.
That being said, I’ve attached a few pics of the family dogs for your enjoyment. Whiskey is a chocolate lab. Secret is a flat-coated retriever mix.
Whiskey collects logs.
Secret gathers the kindling.
Both are great helpers!
As you read this, I am quietly crafting stories on my laptop. I can’t share my work with you here, but I can share some wonderfully crafted and published stories which touch me in some way.
I am an avid reader of picture books and use these as mentor texts. If you are like me, I have some old favorites, and sometimes it’s easy to grab one of those instead of a newer book. So as part of my growth as a reader and a writer, I am consciously seeking out new picture books.
In 2014, I decided to match picture books with daily celebrations. If you are a teacher or parent of young children, I hope you will take a look at my daily pages and CELEBRATE EVERY DAY WITH A PICTURE BOOK.
And, I’m updating this page to include my newest service. I call it BOOKS ALIVE! I am reading as many 2015 picture books as I can this year. I give a brief synopsis of the story and then offer fun suggestions to help you bring the story alive with your child. Most are craft ideas or easy recipes, but others are musical, kinetic, or intellectual in nature. I hope you’ll join me in this endeavor too.
Well, enough about me. Please leave me a comment and tell me about yourself. Look forward to hearing from you!
Hi Juliana, I never saw such a long list of picture books! How may I send my picture books to you, for your opinion?

Hello Gita. It’s so nice to hear that you have a picture book! I think picture books are my first love! As you can see, I do a lot of review, but I stick to only books I can find in my public library. I do this for several reasons, one I want to support my library and two I do this to spread the word about great books which people can share with their children. This is really only possible if people can get their hands on the books. Not everyone has access to a bookstore, but most people do have access to libraries. Now, having said that, I would love to read your book if I can get a copy at the library. Please send me the title of your book and I will certainly look for it! And thanks again for reading and following! 🙂

Hi Juliana! Thank you so much for following my blog. I’ve truly enjoyed wandering around yours. I love all the Winnie the Pooh pictures. Pooh is one of my favorite characters right along with Tigger! I’ll be sure to stop by and say hello again.

Thank you Stacey. It’s nice to have another follower, especially since it looks like we have a lot in common. My dogs don’t eat the communion wafers, but they love chocolate kisses as much as I do!

I figured out the problem, there is no wordpress follow button so I have to follow via email, which I must admit I don’t view as often as I do my reader on wordpress. I’ll do my best to keep up!

Hmmm….I wonder if there’s a way to add it. I would think so afterall I had a lot of followers that did the same thing and they were all transferred with me…. I’ll look into it!

I checked into it. There is a way for you to manually add it. ( https://wordpress.com/following/edit/) However, they also said they (wordpress.org) could manually put a follow button on my blog and I asked them to do that, so hopefully there will be one there within the next day! 🙂 Thanks for pointing that out to me Juliana!

I’ll go back to it in a few days and follow from there!

Hi Juliana,
picture book bloggers unite! I’m so impressed with your blogging commitment. I’m theoretically attempting to review one picture book a day for a year, but I won’t lie, I think it’s going to be a challenge. Have you ever wavered?

Hi Lucy. Your blog is wonderful! Don’t put yourself down. I haven’t really wavered, but I have fallen behind. My goal is to have several days posted ahead of time, for those teachers and parents who want to look ahead and get their books ready. But I often end up waiting for library books to arrive and I don’t always have everything ready. In that case, I usually have drafts waiting to be published. But I’m sticking with it! We can do this!

Hi Juliana! I’m glad I found you too!! I love your doggie pics. My boys do the same thing. I think their favorite thing in the world is when we split wood (we heat our house with all wood, so we do this a lot) They lay in the pile of wood like we’ve just made the best playpen for them in the WORLD! lol

Hahaha! Mine take it right off the woodpile and deliver it to the door…good dogs!

Thank you too Stephanae! (cool spelling of your name by the way) Can’t wait to hear some of your thoughts. Right now I’m thinking of how muddy my floors will be when the snow melts and those two ‘cuties’ start tromping about the yard! Yikes!

LOL!! Funny you should mention the spelling of my name, when I was a kid I hated it b/c I’m like “why can’t I be like everyone else and have a normal name?” Today I love my name and I also love being different, it’s what sets us apart. Please feel free to call me Steph (feels so much more casual to me).

Thanks Steph! I too have one of those names that I didn’t like as a kid, but love now… maybe it’s just a kid thing!

I’m looking forward to retiring but haven’t committed to the exact timing yet. As they say, I’ll keep going as long as it keeps being fun. But grandchildren do help towards making that decision. Happy writing days ahead!
