A Rock Can Be… written by Laura Purdie Salas and illustrated by Violeta Dabija (2015)
Do you love poetry? Laura Purdie Salas has fashioned another masterpiece of poetry and non-fiction for young readers. Listen to her beginning page, “A rock is a rock. It’s sand, pebble, stone. Each rock tells a story, a tale all its own.” Beautiful, right? Then go further and see how she and Violeta Dabija combine their talents to present rocks in truly poetic ways. My favorite spread depicts a chicken and a bicyclist in a pastoral setting. On these two pages, the rock is a ‘food grinder’ and a ‘path winder’. Love! Love! Love! Don’t waste time, go find your own favorite rhymes and artwork.
I was so excited to get a copy of this book. I have been looking forward to it ever since I read Salas’ and Dabija’s WATER CAN BE last year.
I hope you have as much fun with this book as I did!
Have more fun with rocks!
